For those of you who have a hosting service or ever find a need to upload a file to a server, this post is for you.
I have tried to learn and understand how to ftp a file (upload it) for a long time, with no success. Then I downloaded an ftp program called Filezilla and for some reason it finally clicked what I had to do. And it was so easy. I looked for every chance I could to upload a file just so I could use Filezilla again.
If you are using an ftp program for the first time, I’ll try to explain how I did it. At the top of the ftp program I had to insert my host address (in my case, my website address without www. or the .com, followed by .and my host’s name, including the .com). That part I had trouble with until I got the format exactly right.
Then the user name and password my hosting service gave me when I signed up (and I’m so bad about filing those forms, so it took some time to find). Then click connect. If you do all that right, you should get a message that you connected.
Then on the left side of the ftp program screen, you should see a list of the files on your computer. On the right side of the screen you should see the file folders on your server. Next, you simple drag the files you want uploaded from the computer side to the server side and in seconds you will see it uploading your files.
Once I managed to do it, I couldn’t figure out why it was so hard for me to understand before. Oh well, I’m thankful for lightbulb moments (instead of senior ones).
